Hello all,

Anyone still shooting APS or is it sidelined to your digital or 35mm?
I am one that is missing my little EOS IX that I sold last yr.
Miss the convenience of scanning for snapshots. I bought a Fuji S5000
in its place and the pics are good at 4x6 but that is about it. Sad

I see that all of the F100 and other Fuji 100 speed film has dried up
on ebay as well. Bought a Nikon Coolscan V and would love to see how
my APS looks on it but the darned adapter is pretty pricey for a
format I don't shoot anymore.

Just thought I would toss in a post to the group.

Well, it's pretty quiet these days here. I shoot mostly digital, but I still
have my first IX, and an assortment of Elphs (APS and digital). I've thought
about hiring someone to scan my 50+ rolls of APS and being done with it, but
the IX is still a nice body, and all of the lenses that fit the 10D fit just
fine Wink

I'm still using my Pronea as a "car camera," loaded with Kodak HD200.

Just grabbed a couple of APS cameras from ebay. Plan to use them for
several more years.

Likewise, I have a couple Canon Elphs w/zoom, plus a couple of the Elph Jr.,
an amazing little gem. Also use a Pentax Efina w/zoom. Very handy to put in
a pocket whenever I go out. Love the convenience.

I've just got some more slide film, so I will keep shooting for another
2 or 3 years. There is no interesting digital system out there yet
anyways.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

I confess to having slowed down a little since I acquired a Canon A80
earlier this year. The novelty of it has me at least temporarily
hooked, plus I've used it to document some bonsai work where the
immediate results are cool.

However, I still plan to use my Elph Jr at least occasionally, as it's
less than half the size (and a quarter of the replacement value!) for
casual, "just in case" use. ( I also have a Canon AL-1, AE-1, A1 and
F1 (some inherited) for my 35mm fixes.)

My wife picked up the APS baton and shot ten rolls in Paris last month
with her Elph 2, so APS is not dead yet here. We got those scanned to
CD at a local camera store but it turned out they did a Kodak "Picture
CD" which is not really the resolution I wanted, but numbers I've seen
on higher res scans would have run the project up to the price of a
scanner -- I'm still deliberating that move. I have 35mm negatives
and slides going back to the 1950s should I really want to go scan
happy; the question is will I really do something worthwhile with the
capability, or is it yet another toy.

Decisons, decisions ...

Hi,

I'm still shooting with my Elph 2 and Advantix 400. We just returned from
10 days in Italy, and the "H" format prints are quite nice. I do miss a
long telephoto lens, and my fish eye from my Olympus OM-4T outfit, but it
is now physically difficult for me to carry 15 pounds of camera equipment
the way I used to. Another advantage of the small and lightweight Elph 2,
is that I can often get away with grab shots that would be impossible
with a professional-looking camera in my hands. All in all, I'm quite
pleased with what I can do now.

As someone mentioned, the Kodak Picture CD-ROM is very low resolution,
and the Canon "high-res" CD-ROM is too. I might get myself a scanner that
would do an APS roll all at once and in high-res, and toward that end,
any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Morton

I still have 2 APS compact P&S cameras and shoot APS most days. Will
continue as long as the cameras work and I can get film and processing.

Favorite APS films are Kodak HD100 and Kodak B&W 400. Only wish I could
get the latter in 40 exp rolls.

Lack of traffic here not really surprising. There's not likely to ever
be much 'news' about APS, but APS film remains available just about
everywhere...

Was using my Elph Jr as a go-anywhere camera but it seized up with that
"H" on the LCD screen and nothing clears it- absolutely nothing.
Am using my Vectis S1 though - a terrific lightweight SLR with the
28-56 zoom the 56-170 zoom, the 50mm macro and the dedicated add-on
flash (as well as the built in). Mid roll exchange makes having one
camera body easy to live with. Using mostly advantix 400, advantix 400
B&W and fuji 800 (though that was originally earmarked for the now
defunct Elph Jr.).
Still using the OM2 and for serious pictorials the Pentax 6x7. Cheap
digital is just that - cheap P&S. Expensive digital has a life
expectancy far too short for the cost involved.

Any ideas on how to fix the dreaded "H" on the junior? First few times
it happened just pulling the battery fixed it. Now nothing does.

I fear that "H" must be a pretty generic error message. The couple of
occasions mine has come up that way, taking the battery out long
enough for it to lose its mind brought it back to life. Both of those
occasions occurred when I put in a roll of film after a month or more
of disuse. That makes me think that sticking mechanical items in the
film feed are among the sources for that diagnostic.

That would suggest some sort of cleaning of the interior might help,
but I've no idea whether one can get that little guy apart and back
together again or not. I always have visions of mysterious
microscopic parts flying out as the case is opened.

I guess if it's totally non-functional there's not much to lose by
trying. Working, the Jr is a heck of a nice little camera.

Totally agree with Michael's comments re the Vectis S1. I've got 22mm
through to 400mm lenses for mine and there isn't much I want to do that the
S1 can't do. I only wish that the 400mm focussed faster and mid-roll change
was quieter - I was using four types of film on one holiday, learned from
that and bought another S1 body.

Only the 400mm lens was bought new, all the other lenses and bodies (I have
two S1 and one S100) were bought second-hand.

Managed to find six rolls of Fuji APS slide film as "end of line bargains"
in a large photo dealer. Please don't tell me the Fuji lab has closed!

I do like using slide film so ...
.... when I saw two Canon IX7 bodies second-hand for £29 each I bought both.
I passed one to a friend ... and then bought a second-hand IX for £59.
I've now acquired several EF lenses so the next step will be to buy a
second-hand EOS 35mm body and then ...
.... I'll be able to use APS print and 35mm slide without carrying two
different systems around. Smile

The only catch is that the S1 lenses are more compact than their Canon
equivalents (because the S1 lenses are specifically for APS format whereas
the Canon lenses are 35mm format) so I've not decided which system to take
on holiday.

So - yes, I'm still using APS and will stay with it for as long as it lasts.
The print quality meets my needs and I very much like the way that exposure
info is printed on the back of each print. I also use the print quantity
option more than I expected.
I'll use 35mm for slides (I'm just waiting to find a suitable body
second-hand .. the 300 and 3000 appeal because they are similar in style to
the IX7).

Here in the UK, APS SLR bodies are not expensive - £29 for IX7 was a good
price (though I saw an IX7 in a nearby city a few days later at £199).
Vectis S1 and S100 with the "shorter" lenses (28-56mm, 22-80mm, 25-150mm)
are not difficult to find but the longer lenses (56-170mm, 80-240mm and
400mm) and the macro are not very common. This is assuming you want to buy
from a store rather than by mail order or online.
Canon IX and IX7 are also not hard to find and, of course, lenses aren't a
problem due to them taking the current EF lenses.
Nikon APS SLR, on the other hand, do seem quite rare. I recall seeing only
2-3 in the past year.

Given that I have just bought two S-1 with all six the major lenses,
and a Fujifilm Endeavor Tiara 1000ix (New, and not the 1010ix), YES, I
AM STILL SHOOTING APS! B-)
