I don't have a proper birding lens, just a 70-200. Was over at
Brisbane's Southbank on the weekend and saw this little
kingfisher in one of the gardens right next to where I was eating
lunch. Made do with what I had, and he/she was very patient with
me.

I liked this pose better, but there's a hotspot behind him which
detracts a lot IMO.

Looks more like a kookaburra in this one.

Comments welcome as always.

Great pictures. I liked the first one best. If I saw either in a shop,
I'd buy them. Great colours. Just a comment about your photo on your
homepage, though - the huge open neck collar on your shirt makes it
look like your head's shrunk. Plus your sunnies are too small. Keep up
the good work.

LOL. The snowboarding jacket collar is deceptive. My head is actually
quite huge, which is why the sunnies look small. Thanks.

At Southbank? (O: Huh - looks like a city slicker, too.. all well-
groomed and neat.. I must spend a morning or arvo at Southbank - the
wildlife is actually quite amazing, given its smack in the middle of
the city. Love all the lizards, and there's a couple of nice big
spiders up near the bike-path-hill above the Maritime Museum. Dunno
about the background tho'...

Anyway, nice shots - I agree with your self appraisal! Most of the
Kookas I've seen lately (eg at Cedar Creek Falls near Tamborine) have
looked decidedly more ragged.. l'm guessing s/he is a juvenile. Cute
little fella.

Off topic. (In fact I'm not sure why Rita would post such a comment
here unless stalking or attention-seeking.)

Take note of the messages beneath Rita's work, and her freqconstant
claim that she only posts her bad images. Which would appear to be
true.

My critiques on her 'joke images' are obviously taking a heavy toll..

Thanks Mark. I was totally surprised to see this fella in there.
Screaming kids everywhere, even a couple were running right under
the tree he was in. He was a little one too. Very cute. Glad I
got some semblence of a shot of him.

I really like the first one. It's sharp with great color. The
incidental light through the leaves is distracting, though. I think
it could be fixed with a bit of tweaking. A great capture Troy!
