Can anyone please describe the differences between the Cambo SC and SCX, eg
movements, weight, features. I've tried to look them up on the net in
various ways and have found nothing that helps to answer my question.

which applications is each better suitted to, assuming there are differences
in the first place.
TIA.

JJ

I have a Cambo SC II. Basically, from memory (the camera's not here for
me to check.): Swings -- front and back -- are limited only by bellows
(have never used more than about 25 degrees); Tilts -- front and back
-- are +- 60 degrees, but you'll never need more than 30. Most times a
lot less. Shifts -- front and back -- about 2 inches each side of
center. Rises/Fall -- front and back -- Up about 75mm, Down about half
that.

All movements on the optical axes.

FWIW, in 25 years of professional shooting with this camera, I have
never ever approached the limits of movements even with the most
radical architectural interior or involved table top setup.

Camera weighs about 8 pounds or so without lens.

Accessory rails cannot be piggy-backed. The SC II had 3 stock rails:
11 3/4", 22" and 30". I used the 11" with lenses from wide angle to
about 180mm, mostly at infinity focus. The 22" I used mostly for table
top work. Never owned or needed the 30. It was really for the 8x10
camera -- same front standard as the 4x5 model, different bellows and
rear standard. IIRC, there was at one time a 5x7 model, too.

Doesn't have a rotating back, but a later model than mine did. I never
missed it.

Friction, not gear focusing, tilting, swinging, sliding, etc.

All black. All metal, even the knobs. Built to last. And it has.

Caveat: swing induced yaw. Usually encountered when camera is tilted
down with lens and/or film standards returned to vertical, and
front/rear swings are used. Mostly a problem with table top set ups.

You might also check this web site: <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.calumetphotographic.com" target="_blank">www.calumetphotographic.com</a> Not
the cheapest prices, but very, very reputable. I've been ordering
stuff from them for 30 years or so.

I owned the SCX and played with the SC. Basically the difference is that
the SCX is a low cost entry model that lacks a few luxuries. The basics
are the same, but working is easier and faster with the SC.

If you are on a tight budget, the SCX is the thing to go, you can do
everything with it. The SC has scales for repeated movements etc., but
there is nothing the SC can do that the SCX doesn't, it is just easier
to use the SC. Nowadays, the chances to get a cheap outfit is about the
same, so go for the SC. If you can get an inexpensive SCX, take it and
invest in more lenses.
