I have been able to carry on a pleasant email conversation with Helen
through the address she gave here. Most of you don't know me, but I can say
that I am confident that the "Helen Oster" posting from Google is the same
as the Helen at the Adorama email address. If you have any doubts about
this, take her up on her offer above.

More power to you if you are From Adorama. A user forum including user
images on the Adorama website would be a nice plus! See Calumet
Photographic for general ideas.

I think you've posted this response about five times or more. You're
going to do a better job of representing Adorama here if you don't come
across like spammer and if you post unique messages.

Dunno. Never did business with them or even heard of them before.

What a great idea! I've passed it straight to our webmaster for his
thoughts.

Thank you for such a constructive idea - is it possible that you can
send me a private email outside this forum?

Many thanks

I can only apologise - I have absolutely no idea how that happened -
maybe it's a gremlin? Or a sign that the issues being debated in this
thread have truly been done to death, and we all need to move on?!!

Dear Rita

Thank you for flagging this up. I will investigate this immediately
and see what I can turn up. Of course, you are aware that all Adorama
Direct Import goods (the correct name for 'grey market'), are labelled
clearly as such, and all carry a warranty!

You may find the information below, helpful:
Adorama Camera was started - & is still run by - a bunch of
photography enthusiasts. As we all know, photography as a hobby, or as
a business, can get expensive! Adorama makes Direct Import goods
available so that other photographers can get hold of quality goods at
a reduced price.

Direct import, refers to products imported directly into the U.S.,
rather than through the manufacturer's authorized agent / distributor.
It is perfectly legal to directly import these products and sell them
in the USA. The term "Grey Market" was coined by manufacturer's
authorized distributors who wanted to discourage consumers from buying
these goods.

Since there is no factory authorized middle man involved in the import
of these products the costs are lower, and so the price of the item is
lower to the consumer. In addition many items which are in short
supply or are not imported at all by the manufacturer's authorized
distributors, are available in the "Grey Market"

There is also no manufacturer's warranty available with Direct Import
Goods, however, Direct Import Products purchased from Adorama are
warranted by Adorama Camera and have to be returned to Adorama Camera
for any in warranty repair.

There is NO difference in the actual products. Occasionally
manufacturers will name them differently; for example, the Minolta USA
Maxxum products are called Minolta Dynax products in Europe and in
Asia

On Direct Import products purchased from Adorama, we offer the same
warranty as the USA warranted products carry, for a period of one
year.

I hope this has been helpful

Thank you once again for drawing my attention to the discussion on DP
Review

Rita

I have checked back through that thread on DP Review regarding the D3
cameras - as no doubt you have, & found the following - which was
posted by Jerry, after he had listened to the tape recordings between
the sales agent and the OP customer:

"We received a few Nikon D3 DEMO's in box, factory packed without
Nikon USA warranty. The salesman called customer(s) (in the order that
the orders came in) and clearly explained to customer that though
Nikon is heavily back ordered on the D3's we did get some Demo's in
without USA warranty, - but with our own Adorama warranty for 2 years
which we had to pay more for, and if the customer wants he may
purchase it or continue waiting.

The salesman was clear to explain that these were not from Nikon USA"

Can I suggest that my time would be better utilised dealing with
current customer issues than responding to those which have already
been picked over and resolved?
With regard to your allegations concerning my presence on this - or
any other Forum - I don't expect an apology from you, contrary to the
wishes of some posters on this Forum. However, I am concerned at your
need to re-name the company that I work for, in both the subject
heading and by changing the website address of Adorama Camera - what
is that about, exactly? You do yourself no credit at all by stooping
to such depths.

At Adorama Camera we seek to meet the needs of our past, existing and
future customers; it would appear from your postings that you have no
interest in dealing with Adorama Camera - and I see no benefit in
attempting to alter your mindset on this point. However, there are
consumers who deserve a quality service, and responding to your posts
is clearly not only futile, but an unwarranted waste of my time.

Regards

as you can see Helen, the average IQ is only 2 digits.
some of them are here, obviously.

When large vendors take the approach
that Adorama seems to have taken with you, everyone wins.

And then there are sourly and surly characters, some types who
like to make a stir and others with preconceived opinions (most
often on 'holy wars' like Canon vs. Nikon). There are people
who'd rather talk about 8 vs. 10 vs. 12 MPix and lens sharpness
than evaluate a camera system as the sum of all parts --- or,
$DEITY / @DEITIES forbid, taking photos.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/On_the_Internet,_nobody_knows_you're_a_dog
and doubtlessly we have our share of canines here.

Yup.

And don't take a ruckus here too serious.
You cannot satisfy everyone, even when they are acting in good
faith and try to cooperate.
