I admit it, I'm an old Adorama customer from decades ago when I used to live
in NYC, but two experiences in the last two days may have switched me.
First, Adorama still doesn't have stock of the Nikon D300 and B&H did. Okay
first purchase. Then I was surfing the B&H web site and found that, like at
Adorama, the "lower priced" Nikon film scanner was out of stock. That's a
tie, but on the B&H webpage there was a button that enabled me to get an
e-mail as soon as the item was back in stock.
Bingo!!! I got the e-mail this morning and purchased the scanner too.
That's two purchases in two days.

Now all B&H needs to do is to create a website that's as easy to navigate as
the Adorama and I'll be switched permanently.

Norm

I wonder how Adorama treats its employees?

October 17, 2007
B&H to Pay $4.3M to Settle Suit Alleging Pay Bias Against Latinos

B&H Foto and Electronics Corp. has agreed to pay $4.3 million to
settle a U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) complaint
alleging the company violated federal law by discriminating against
Hispanic workers.

The EEOC's lawsuit, filed under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of
1964, alleged that B&H paid Hispanic workers in its warehouses less
than non-Hispanic workers and failed to promote them or provide them
health benefits based on their national origin.

Under the settlement, the company agrees to equalize the wages of
Hispanic employees to their non-Hispanic coworkers and to work with
the EEOC in a claims process to distribute $4.3 million in monetary
relief to individuals who the agency says were paid less, not
promoted, or denied benefits because they are Hispanic.

"We commend B&H for working cooperatively with us to resolve this
matter without protracted litigation," says EEOC New York Trial
Attorney Louis Graziano. "We encourage other employers to follow B&H's
example of resolving this case expeditiously and in good faith."

Why? Are you considering a career at either place in the shipping
department? All the cheap plastic that goes out of those two places
might just drive you postal.

Good Morning / Afternoon

I'd like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you all; my
name is Helen, & I've been appointed recently as the Customer Service
Ambassador for Adorama, as part of a new strategic plan for the
company.
My role is to pick up on sales, website & policy issues, and where
possible, address them, to ensure complete satisfaction when you
purchase from Adorama Camera (whether on-line, in the store or by
telephone).
If you have any queries, problems, issues or gripes, please do not
hesitate to get in touch - I can't promise over night resolution, but
be assured that each & every customer is important to us at Adorama,
and I will always do my best to ensure that you are happy with your
purchase.
You can contact me at: helen.oster.RemoveThis@adoramacamera.com

Best wishes

Helen Oster

Well, one thing you should know Helen, is that the previous poster is a
forum troll. He doesn't have any actual opinions on anything but is a
defective personality that says things that will get him talked
to/about. The best thing to do is just ignore him.

BTW, I've ordered items from both B&H and Adorama, and haven't had any
problems with either site.

You'd have done better to buy it at Beach Camera. They have the D300 at
$1799.00 including a Sandisk 2GB card and free shipping. And Beach ships
extremely fast -- faster than either Adorama or B&H in my experience. So
does Beach's sister company, Buydig.com -- which has the same deal on the
D300. So you could have saved the shipping charges and the price of a 2GB
card.

Neither Beach nor Buydig.com has the wide range of merchandise that Adorama
and B&H do. But for the items they do have, like camera bodies and most
popular lenses, they almost always have better prices -- and their service
is just unbeatable.

| If this is legitimate, then why isn't this email in the adorama.com
domain,
| such as the online store is?

I checked the WhoIs database of who's registered domains and this one
belongs to Adorama Inc at 42 West 18th Street NYC so it looks quite Kosher
to me

Sure, and that's probably the case. But add that to maybe $20 or more saved
in shipping, plus the buck cheaper the D300 is than at B&H, and you have the
price of a nice lunch for two at a decent restaurant. On top of that, their
service in my experience is always faster than B&H or Adorama -- I've made
many, many purchases from Beach and Buydig and have always been impressed
with their fast delivery. I'm only about 150 miles from their place in New
Jersey so regular (free) shipping is fast for me anyway, but typically I
order from them in the early afternoon and the Fedex guy is at my door with
it early the next morning. B&H and Adorama are reasonably prompt, nothing to
complain about, but they're not *that* fast -- and they're both closer to me
than Beach/Buydig.

Definitely.

Yes well you exhibit such down to earth common sense,

You need some perspective. Look at the Subject line, its all free
advertising, someone changed that subject line for personal benefit
or to have a big laugh "Me".

If you read back through the original thread its rather ironic that
Helen popped up just at the right time to defend one of two of the
biggest /possibly best photo dealers in NYC. Never mind no one pointed a
finger and said B&H or Adorama screwed up, quite the contrary. So maybe
even Helen assumed Adorama was the dealer at fault cuz B&H never does
right Smile

How is it "ironic" that Helen, self-described as a customer service
ambassador for Adorama, should introduce herself after a post *about*
customer service and mentioning her employer?
