you do. (You being "them", or whomever)

John is correct. I have a nice compact P&S and now a DSLR as well, and each
has its own purpose.
I dont tell you how to shoot, and I wont listen to your unsolicited advice.
In my previous experience of Photography, I had started with my mothers old
basic Brownie Camera, then I graduated to an old Polaroid Swinger LOL I can
still picture that old camera, an Argus C3 (which was a great rangefinder
for those who do not know) and then bumped up to my first SLR a Konica T3 (I
couldn't afford a Canon or a Minolta in those days) and I still have the
three lenses. Normal I had a 52 mm, wide was a 28mm and my portrait lens
was a 135mm. After this, I was all over the place using equipment and
depending on what I was trying to accomplish would make me decide on what
piece of equipment to use. Is one better or more useable then the other?
Depends on what your doing at that moment. Cameras are only a tool, like a
piece of charcoal or paint brush is to an artist and I feel all of this lame
arguing of which one is better is ridiculous. A Gear Head, knows about all
the equipment. A photographer uses what they feel is right for that moment
and couldn't care less what else is out there if what he is using is right
for that job or shot. A true Photographer can and will eventually use them
all.
By occupation now, I am a carpenter and its like you telling me one hammer
is better then another. It might be, but what do I care if I can do the job
with this one?
Get over yourself, go out and shoot some pictures with whatever camera you
have.

If you say so. When I worked as a carpenter, I didn't frame with a 16
ounce hammer. It took too long and was too wearing. Thus, I could do
the job with the 16 ounce, but I really preferred a 24 or 28 ounce. >> Stay informed about: Why would you care if others prefer P&S cameras? |

Yes, and 3 Canon DSLRs (well, actually 2 as one is out on loan to my

Charley Boy,
Did I say anything about weight??? Guess not. See, your telling me what
hammer to use and you dont know what I'm doing with it now do you?? And,
you think your right??? Am I setting nails? Am I using it for trim? Am I
setting out protection? Am I framing? If I'm framing I will use a screw
gun, cause I will be using metal studs. I will be using Zips or S12's for
you to figure out. I am not a house framer, I am a sheet rocker. If I use
a hammer at all, its normally my 24 oz framing hammer. LOL My 16OZ trim
hammer sits in my tool box and gathers dust.
But this is the whole point. You are assuming I will be doing one thing,
and truthfully with a hammer I can be doing a million other things including
doors. How many hammers do you own, Carpenter?? Which one do you use most
often?? This proves your argument is absolutely pointless about which
camera is better. Better for what?? One camera is good for sticking in the
pocket when I dont want to drag my Nikon around. If I'm at a party and I
will be taking candids, I will bring my Nikon so I can shoot fast and not
have to worry about if my camera is slowing up downloading the information
to the memory card. My Nikon is better in low light. My Nikon lens is
faster, my Nikon lens is longer. If I dont need that I will use my little
Canon which takes great pics. I have blown up some of the shots from this
little P&S to sell and hang up to 11X14 and it holds up very well to this
size. This camera is a Canon Elph SD450 5 MP. Everything has its purpose.
How many hammers do I own?? A lot. Which one am I going to use now? Beats
me, I have to see what I need it for.................. Get a Life Charley
Boy.

Yvon,
I wonder if you own a Panasonic and now regret it. Whats your point?? I
dont even own a Panasonic stereo.
So who cares what he owns? Did you pay for it? Are you gonna buy him
something that he doesn't want cause its what you want??
Doesn't matter what tool one owns, just the job one does with it. If it
works for you, fine. I dont care what you use. If your pictures are great,
then fine. I don't care what tool you used to do it. If someone remodels a
kitchen, do you ask what company screwgun they did it with? I dont think
so. What brand screws or nails they used? If a plumber is finished working
on the leak under your sink, did you ask him which company pipe wrench he
used?? I dont think so. Why, because "it just doesn't matter". Did he use
a big one, probably not cause it wouldn't fit under that cabinet anyway.
See, its pointless and you people are so stuck on what someone has that you
get so angry and your blood pressure goes up for absolutely nothing.
If a car wins a race, what tires did the driver use?? This makes
advertising sell? Would you go out and buy these tires for your car and
general use?? I dont think so.

I don't know. I have to keep mine on separate shelves or they spend the
whole night fighting and making an awful racket.
