I'll do the American thing: Get me a platoon of marines simply
_take_ the ice cream. Better?

Nikon products have been mounted on every manned American
spaceflight since Apollo 15, and this is a clear manifestation of the
high reliability and quality of Nikon optics.

So who was first on the moon?
Hint: Not Nikon.

.... especially of all low end lenses Nikon ever touched.

It's equally likely that it's a manifestation of Nikon's willingness to give
NASA a good price on their equipment, in the hope that NASA's use thereof
would be remarked upon by the likes of us. If so, I guess it was a sound ploy.

I'll stick my neck out and guess that he carried an Olympus. In those
pre-digital days, IIRC, they made the smallest and lightest
professional-quality film SLRs.

Man, you're keeping us in suspense! What are the two L lenses that are so far
off-spec that you're sending them back? (Rich A. will go crazy if you don't
tell him soon.)

One more question: Were those lenses deficient only in the context of their
use on one of the world's most expensive digital cameras, or would we 400D
grabshooters who make up the bulk of this group's Canon contingent notice it
too?

With Hasselblad, all you have to take back from the moon were the film
backs.

And the quality of medium format compared to 35 mm film was "out of this
world."

The original poster mentioned testing a ruler at 45 degrees to the camera.

Another thread explained why that is a useless test.
I too had used that idea. When I went back and tested flat objects I got
much better results.
