I see the Arista Sheet films (Ilford FP4/HP5) I'm so fond of are being
replaced by another film called Arista II ( ? on manufacturer though they
still make reference to England as origin but not Ilford apparently)--as
well as the printing paper which I assume may now be produced by Kentmere as
they are now carrying (Announced in the catalog!) Kentmere's line of
papers. I've not used Kentmere papers but really liked both the original
versions of Arista Sheet Film and B&W Printing Papers. That makes me worry
even more on Ilford's LF film future as well as papers!!
Any inside information here!!

I don't think Kentmere makes film. So if the film is still made in the UK
it's got to be Ilford still.

No inside info., but years ago I did use Kentmere papers and I liked them,
so you might want to give them a try. I've never heard of Kentmere making
film, but I suppose they might be the sort of company that might be
interested in taking on some of the Ilford operation.

Only Ilford related item I have heard was discontinuation of SFX. Perhaps they
are introducing something newer?

No idea about the Arista II, but I'm sure the new Arista.EDU is FOMA, based
on the ISO 9001 designation they are so proud of using. That's a good
thing.

Looks like Freestyle will carry more FOMA products than J&C [who FOMA didn't
even know was selling their products at the first]. J&C had a deal with
Fotoimpex Berlin [still does], whereas I believe Freestyle is directly
contracting with FOMA now.

I like FOMA products and think this will be good for both of them.

Iford decided, as part of their re-organizing, to
discontinue to sell film for custom branding. Because the
overall volume of sales of film has fallen it turns out that
it cuts into their sales of Ilford branded film and is no
longer economical. I don't know what Freestyle has replaced
it with for their Arista brand. Freestyle has had to either
discontinue or change suppliers for its EDU brand of economy
films for the same reason. The sales of the regular branded
film (I think EDU was EFKE or FOMA) was being cut into and
the manufacturer was loosing money on the custom branded
stuff.

Is Arista.EDU really Forte?? All I know is that when I used the
developing times recommended for Fortepan, I got terrible results.
However when I started using the times recommended by a slip of paper that
came in the of Arista.EDU film, my results started turning out MUCH better
(and the times are way different from Fortepan). Yet everybody on the web
seems to think it is Fortepan.

Yes, I should do my own speed and development tests. Getting to it
someday...

No. its ILFORD. Arista is a common brand name over there much like
ACME in the USA and Freestyle has been using it here for ages.. The
Arista rebadged line is also sold by Freephoto but their website seems
to be down.

However, I do know that Freestyle has the Forte stuff and its quite
possible it is Hungarian.

Why don't you just call FreeStyle and ask them what the film really is?
