Greetings;
Simply making a statement such as "It stinks" or ineffectually bawling
out "haha haha" might reflect your own understanding of the matter but
it is hardly of any use to someone asking a question.
Tri-X is a medium-grain film; it is a very versatile film and reasonably
tolerant of under- or over-exposure. That is why it is still popular,
even though it's introduction dates back to 1954.
Regarding Rodinal, this is an acutance developer, although it produces
reasonable rather than outstanding acutance. The problem with Rodinal
(and many other acutance developers) is that they increase graininess,
which given such a film as Tri-X is not a good combination: far better
to choose a film such as Agfa 400 which has finer grain and can be
treated well by Rodinal.
Agfa Rodinal was, I believe, introduced in 1881, and although modified
today (less potassium hydroxide and added potassium bromide) is still
the developer of longetivity.
My regards, F.C. Trevor Gale.
