Hi,

I’d like to know if there is a way to manually hold the shutter open on
a Pentax Spotmatic SP F. I seem to recall that it may be possible to
use a shutter release cable to manually control the length of the
exposure. If that is possible, I may have to go that route. However,
for now, I’d prefer to just use the shutter release button if that's
possible. Is there some shutter release trick to keep the shutter open?

Thanks in advance.

All for now,
Don

In lieu of mirror lockup, experienced Pentax owners can coax
their mechanical Pentax SLRs to raise the mirror and stop down
the diaphragm with just he right tap on the shutter release;
another tap releases the shutter.
This is probably what you are thinking of.

AFAIK there is no undocumented time exposure setting ("T")
on Pentax cameras. However a locking cable release will
accomplish this, as you mentioned...

Try setting the shutter speed to B. Over exposure is easy with this setting,
though.
