I saw a Speed Graphic with a Compur shutter at a local antique show
yesterday. It seemed to be in good shape, though the lens looked cloudy
and the shutter assembly felt kind of loose. There was a bit of must and
dust on the 120 "23" film back. They wanted $495.00 for this camera. I
assume this is way too much for a Speed Graphic, much less one that hasn't
been CLA'd and/or kept in with its accessory box.

That's twice what you should expect to pay for one in such condition.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

I would expect $125 - $250.

As I expected. They said they would "work with me" on the price, but I
knew they'd go ape if I asked to buy it for a realistic price. I think
they bought it on eBay with the idea that they'd found some sort of
secret antique camera source. Pity on them!<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Probably true ... the "Antique Business" is pretty much based on those kind
of ridiculous markups, and selling hyped-up junk to unsuspecting buyers.
Generally *not* the place where you would want to buy a camera.

These are not antiques or collector's items but usable
cameras. The price is way out of line. $500 should buy a
late model Graphic in virtually perfect condition with case
and accessories. Leave this alone and keep looking.
