Hi Every one,
I have purchased a new SD1000 Camera, Canon Says its SDHC card
compliant. But has any one used the new card on this camera and does
it really work. If so, which brands work well on this camera.

Thanks in advance.

Regards

I just got the Canon SD1000 as a gift over the weekend,
and they also gave me a SanDisk 2GB standard card.
I'm thinking of turning that back and getting the 2GB Ultra.
BTW - I posted a couple of questions just recently about SD card speeds...

Thanks Schuman for your reply I am not looking for speed of writing
for this camera yet but for capacity, there is a new format of SD
called SDHC that SD1000 is compliant but I have read some where else
that not all SDHC cards compatible with this model. So was looking for
specific brands that might work with this particular model.

P.S.-

I doubt you will notice much difference between the standard and the
Ultra cards. Perhaps there will be an increase in speed of writing
pictures to the card, but maybe not enough to justify the price.

ULTRA is not the same as "SDHC". The older SD standard had a 2 GB limit
in size, but the SDHC standard goes higher. I've seen references to 8
GB cards, and understand it can go at least as high as 32 GB. In
addition to requiring your camera to be SDHC compliant, you also need a
card reader (if you use one) that is SDHC compliant as well.

Now for the practical side: do you know how many pictures you can fit
on a 2 GB card? Even with the finest camera setting and maximum
megapixels, it could easily be several hundred. For smaller pictures,
it could be in the thousands. Do we really need such big cards?

ahh - got it -
BTW - after reading around the web,
I believe the SDHC reflects flash card sizes greater than 2GB...
ie - the old FAT16 formatting limit of 2GB for DOS is used,
and then the FAT32 format is used to handle sizes above 2GB.
So - the SDHC is FAT32 format,
and of course the camera must be able to handle this format.

Is there some reason why you assume the company lie about such a
straight-forward spec???
Of course it will work.

That was also my first reaction, but I think the OP is
suspicious of the exact compliance of some brands of card as
much as the camera. I have seen examples of some cards
marked as SDHC that don't work in certain cameras yet work
fine in others. You snipped the "which brands work well on
this camera" at the end, which I suspect is what he's really
asking before he spends money on a card.

So you'll guarantee that unbranded Chinese knock-off he
might buy then? Wink

Ya ya ya... -But the OP mentions doubting the camera's manual...not the
cards.
There's enough confusion out there to cover your possible version though...

Not just the camera, you might want to check out card readers as well.
Sandisk package a card reader with their SDHC card.

Right.

Hmmmm, no. The file system has nothing to do with the SD flash card
standard. That is a totally different level. Nothing is stopping me from
formatting and using a flash card (no matter if old SD or new SD or CF or
....) with NTFS or ext2fs or whatever comes to mind.

> and of course the camera must be able to handle this format.

That is quite true, of course (and therefore NTFS or ext2fs is probably not
a good choice because the camera wouldn't know what to do with it). But the
camera and card reader must in particular also be able to handle the new
standard on the lower "electronic" level.

Thanks every one for all your postings here, as some one else pointed
out I wasn't doubting the claim by the camera company about there
product but to basically see which cards are complaint as I heard some
cards like A-Data weren't working on this particular model. I was
specially checking for decently priced cards, which are SDHC complaint
and would work well for this camera specially if, some one hard
already used them.

I see that there now 4GB SD Cards in the market what are they FAT16 or
FAT32 as some one here suggested that SD cards have max of 2GB and
after that we have to use SDHC?.
