I have no release paper, and need to mount a few photos. I live in a
rural area, so I have to buy my supplies mail order (thank God for B&H
- I love those guys despite the anti-semetic comments posted here
about them!). It will be a week or so before I see any real release
paper.
I use the seal colormount adhesive, in a dry mount press - question -
has anybody tried using baking parchment as release paper?
Thanks

Don't bother. I don't use release paper at all. I use two pieces of mat
board (cut to the size of the press), one under and one on top of the
mount-stock/color-mount/print sandwich. Works great.

Except if you mount RC prints and then it sucks, release paper is a good
idea regardless as mount board can stick slightly even to
big glossy fiber prints.

I mount both RC and Fiber never had a problem with either.
I have no objection to using release paper, but the OP didn't have any and
was asking about cooking parchment or something as an alternative.

Have used plain old brown kraft paper for years with FB prints, the hot
"goo" is much less likely to slide from under a FB print than RC. For RC
prints Release paper is a must have item!

I would tend to agree leave the "cooking" parchment alone. True release paper
can be obtained from Light Impressions or possiblely from a lab that uses sheets
of low temp adhesive,....the backing works great. I use it between the platen + a piece of
mount board and the print surface, and I add I have a small Seal 110 press so getting 16x20's mounted
requres me to do mounting in sections. The release paper helps my particular
case so I can mount the print face up (keeping every thing together; the print, board & tissue),...
...using mounting board directly against the print tends to stick when done in this manner
( that is face up).

I have used plain brown kraft paper with no problems, just make sure you
trim the drymount tissue exactly. The release paper won't have the tissue
stick, where kraft paper will.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: Release paper for Dry Mount Press |

You might try the white freezer paper sold in the supermarkets.
I think plain wax paper would not work, the wax would melt.
The freezer paper seems to be coated with a shiny substance that might
prevent the glue from sticking.
Don't use kraft paper, you'll make a mess.

A long, long time ago, I used aluminum foil successfully as a substitute.

About all I can suggest is to try a little. Put a scrap of
tissue on it and see if it sticks. If it doesn't your home
free.
Some time ago I posted a complete description of the Seal
method of dry mounting to this group. Google should still
find it. Release tissue is absolutely necessary to get a
proper mounting with dry mount tissue.
Also, try Freestyle as an alternate source of release
paper. Their house brand works as well as the Seal tissue
and is quite a bit cheaper.
