Well its been a while, and I actually had forgotten how aggravating
the Canon manuals can be. I had a new photographer bring me her Rebel
G. I looked forever in the manual and couldn't find anywhere where
the button was to switch the metering from evaluative, to center
weighted averaging to partial.
I know its got to be there somewhere, but they didn't put where the
button was next to the explanation of what it does. Its probably
buried somewhere but if anyone can point me in the right direction it
would be helpful. If not I can call Canon Monday. Though its
different from my EOS 1, I didn't think I would have any trouble
finding things like that. Most I didn't, but this one I never figured
out. >> Stay informed about: Rebel G Manual |

I borrowed my friend's Rebel G last year a couple of times. You can't
on the Rebel G. At least not directly.
Most exposure modes (except for the macro icon mode, which usually
uses partial) use evaluative metering by default. If you want to use
partial you can do so by pressing the partial metering button * on the
back of the camera.
The odd exception is centre-weighted average metering. You can't use
evaluative metering in M mode. Instead the camera defaults to centre-
weighted average or switches to Partial if you push the partial
metering button.
Hope this helps.

Well that would explain why I can't find it, but if that is the case
the manual sure was poorly written. The one time I actually break
down and read the directions, the directions fail me. Should have
just done the man thing and done the "I don't need no stinking
directions." lol Thanks, but I will call Canon to confirm it for her
and to clue them in on a few ways the manual should be revised. lol >> Stay informed about: Rebel G Manual |

Good idea to call Canon to confirm. Don't feel bad about the manual
thing. I skim through the manual and learn how to use the camera on
my own. Good luck!
