There are a number of image management programs out there. You can do
a quick search and check out ThumbsPlus, ACDSee, Adobe Alpum, JASC's
Album, and lots of others.
As for workflow, I think most advanced amateurs and pros alike use
products that can read their particular images (digital SLRs generate
RAW images in a proprietary format). The would be packages like
Breezebrowser, Capture 1, etc.
