Hi Karl - About all anyone can tell you at this point without having more
information is that you should use film rather than a digital camera.
Digital still isn't really up to the quality of film. But beyond that we
can't help you unless you tell us more about your photographic plans.
For example, are you going to make the photographs in color or black and
white? I'd normally assume color but Joel Peter Witkin has done pretty well
with this kind of thing in black and white so you need to let us know which
you plan to use. I'd suggest T Max 100 for black and white but I don't do
any color work so perhaps someone else could suggest a color film if that's
what you plan to use.
Then there's the question of the best lens for this type of work. Do you
plan to make detailed close ups of the various body parts, in which case you
should buy a good macro lens, or are you more inclined to photograph the
overall butchering scene, in which case a wide angle lens would suit you
better. And what about the carrying equipment? Do you usually carry the
body parts off to another location or do you eat them at the scene of the
killing? If the latter then you probably only need a shoulder bag but if
the former you'll need something larger. In that case you might investigate
the F64 backpack made for 8x10 cameras. I use that backpack for my 8x10
equipment and while I've never personally tried to carry body parts in it I
believe it could be done.
So as you can see your question is more complicated than you probably
thought. If you'll provide us with more detailed information along the above
lines we'll be in a better position to help you.
