Post subject: I'm new here and here's my Photography story

H! Good day to all of you, I hope everyone is doing fine. By the way, I’m Moppet from the Philippines and photography is my heart, life and soul. I’ve been taking photos using a point and shoot camera ever since I was a little girl. Now, that I’m a little old enough I’m now using a Nikon f55 film-based camera.

At first, taking photos using a point and shoot camera was just a hobby because my parents doesn’t have enough money to buy me a SLR-Camera. And I’m contented in using a point, shoot camera n taking photos of my pet cats, and dog. Actually, since early 70’s up to the present my mom owns 6 point and shoot cameras. Her first point and shoot camera is Kodak Trimlite Instamatic 18 camera; the one with a film that is rectangle shape kind of film and for outdoor uses if your going to use it indoors you have to buy a flash. And in the 80’s a Fujica picPAL from Japan, Kinon Mini Pocket Camera K-450HS (the film is also same with Kodak trimlite that you need to buy a Flash in order to use it indoors) a canon with zoom lenses (was stolen in my backpack in 90’s),

In year 1998 or 1999 my mom bought a Ricoh YF-28 with Hybrid and Panorama features. (Got Broken in 2003 during Ms. Earth parade of Costumes, I think because of the flashes of Digital Slr-camera, the camera wont flash and it hangs up) and because of that a week before the pageant night of Ms. Earth, my mom bought a Kodak KZ 28 Easy load 35 with Ektanar Lens. That I always carry around especially in watching a concert or just for emergency purposes just incase there’s a mini free concert of our favorite artist that we didn’t know or we spot a celebrity stuff like that And it’s more compact and lighter to carry than a slr.

Using a point and shoot camera develops my creativity and love for photography, All the point and shoot cameras that we have becomes my collections. I remember I beg my mom to Eat at pizza hut just to have the Pizza Hut pocket camera. Anyways, 4 years ago, I remember I have this subject called Fotogra; it’s about the basic of photography. And we are required to have are “OWN” Slr- camera and the Slr must be a film based. Using Digital is a Prohibited because the subject is all about the basic of photography, the professor wanted to see how creative we are in using a Non-digital camera. My Course is Production Design, that why we have to take up that subject. Anyways, that time my Dad is still saving some money in order for me to buy an SLR Camera. And I’m just borrowing school’s camera that is the Nikon fm10. And I was surprise and even my professor told me that I really have a heart in photography. Because I told him I never used an Slr camera before, that the first time I got the chance to use one.

And I was using the schools camera till midterms but after midterms finally I already have my own SLR camera. Because the schools camera cant be bought home or bring it outside the campus. Well, you can borrow it outside but you have to write a letter and wait for a permit and incase it got broken or stolen you have to pay for it like the price of brand new. That’s why my Dad worked hard in order to buy me one for my finals project in the Fotogra class that the Finals project is all about principles of photography. That’s why we really have to shoot outside. Because the midterms project is all about texture and shapes that we can find inside the campus.

Did you know that I got a high grade in that class and my professor told me and to my mom, that I’m lucky to have a very supportive parents and he is proud to have a student like me who take photography seriously. Until now, I’m still using my Nikon f55 that’s the camera He (my professor) advice me to buy and also my photographer friend she also told me that it’s a good camera for starters like me. Well, all my family, friends, other professors who saw my work in his class, like my work!!

And Since then my life change and I got photography jobs. Its really cool, especially when I have my work in theater, I took pictures of the cast and staff and I create a scrapbook for that show and I let them sign in my scrapbook. That’s the only time they got the chance to see their photos and they like my shots and my scrapbook too! And I give them a Copy of their best photo.
They known me as Moppet the girl who likes to take pictures and create a scrapbook.
