I have an older, overnight NIMH charger that came with 1200 mA/h
cells. Can I charge 1800 mA/h cells in it?

Basically, I guess I'm asking if the charger or the cell determine the
charge capacity?

I did a google search, but the search terms are too broad. Thanks in
advance.

It will charge it, but will probably take ~50% longer time than for a
1200 ma battery, as you'd expect.
