If you have a detachable TTL flash, you have most of a good macro flash
already. Add a remote TTL cord and a bracket that will hold the flash
so that the flash head is at the front of the lens, at about the "7-minute"
position around the lens front, and aimed at the subject (down and in).
The relatively large flash head compared with small subjects like insects
will produce a softbox-like light, unlike the flat, featureless light of a ring
light or the double shadowing resulting from dual lights. Many of the insect
photos at

set-up described.
