Hi

I'm just getting into macro photograpy with the Nikon 105mm VR and
D300. Which macro flash is best? Nikon has the R1 flash but I have
seen some mixed reviews. Your input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Jim

I have not seen bad reviews of the R1 or R1C1 flash kits. It works
quite well for me.

Thanks Rita! You often have good advice. Too bad there are some people
in this group that harass you. Most of the stuff you have to say seems
well informed to me.

If you have a detachable TTL flash, you have most of a good macro flash
already. Add a remote TTL cord and a bracket that will hold the flash
so that the flash head is at the front of the lens, at about the "7-minute"
position around the lens front, and aimed at the subject (down and in).
The relatively large flash head compared with small subjects like insects
will produce a softbox-like light, unlike the flat, featureless light of a ring
light or the double shadowing resulting from dual lights. Many of the insect
photos at www.donferrario.com/ruether/phun.html were taken with the
set-up described.

Hi Rita

One more question. Where did you buy the larry thong light bottle? I
googled it but can't find where to buy it.

Thanks again!
