Hi, I'm trying to use the above camera as something to mess about with
but it doesn't seem to work as expected. I bought it years ago but
I've never actually used it. Here's whats happening. I load the film
fine, then there's a lever which I push to the right which should I'm
guessing wind the film on, it does this twice. Each time this chrome
plate seems to drop down from the winder, the lever pushes this plate
to the right and I think that is whats winding the film on. So after I
do this twice it stops winding the film and just moves freely. The
only way I can get it to wind the film is to physically move the teeth
forward in the film compartment, that seems to free it up and it works
for another two winds then stops again.

Is the camera broke or is this something I'm doing wrong?

Any advice would be great.

Yep it's that one.

This is the problem, I tried firing the shutter a few times and
winding it on, but you only seem to be able to do that twice then it
wont wind at all. Short of opening the back and then moving the teeth
a bit it doesn't seem to work.

Sorry it is this one http://www.nwmangum.com/Kodak/CS35II-1.html with
the recessed winding knob.

The Agfa looks great. Me too, there's still a magic around these old
cameras for me. I'll try and take it apart and see if I can figure out
whats going on, thanks for the tips.

I take it this is one of the 1950's UK Colorsnaps?
http://www.nwmangum.com/Kodak/CS35-1.html

At the risk of sounding obvious - you can only wind the film on
after you have fired the shutter.

After loading the film and closing the back, fire off 3 blank shots:
fire/wind fire/wind fire/wind; the camera is then ready for the
first picture.

Then I would wager it is most likely broke. A broken tooth on a
wind gear may cause what you are describing.

OTOH, with cameras this old, the grease gets stiff and sticky and
a cleaning with Ronsonol may restore it to working condition...

If you are a tinkerer it may make a nice rainy Sunday afternoon
project.

I have a fondness for this sort of camera -- my first 35mm 'real'
camera was an Agfa Solina/Silette http://www.chromeagecamera.com/Silette.htm
