In the film world, I can recommend two cameras; the Noblex, which is a fixed
focal length "seing lens" camera and the Hasselblad X-Pan, which is an
interchangeable lens rangefinder. Here's the quick summary:
Noblex: models available for either 35mm or 120 size film; can be a pain to
load, but once you learn it, not so bad; limited to one perspective, one
lens; high quality lens, sharp pics corner to corner; true panorama camera;
photos have the "cigar" effect due to swing lens images.
Hassy: just a rangefinder that captures an image that's about twice as wide
as a normal 35mm camera, and uses special lenses to accomodate the larger
image circle; can switch from standard 35mm to panoramic format instantly;
lenses and camera are of extremely high quality; only three lenses available
(30mm/45mm/90mm); much more useful than the Noblex, but not as wide an
image; easier to load/unload.
Like the other guy says, you're probably better off with a digital camera
and good stitching software. But I had a ball with those two cameras...
