Hopefully without appearing to take too much advantage of recent
affirmations of positive contributions to newbies, I have yet another DNQ.

The Jobo 2509 reel for 4x5 comes with two plastic film holders that slide on
over the film slots, presumably to keep the negs from backing out during
processing. I can guide them into place in the dark OK, but they seem to
fall off at the slightest provocation. I'm certain I have them on right --
center peak inwards -- because the reel doesn't fit in the tank otherwise.
Is there a trick to keeping them in place? Are they truly necessary? or can
I just leave them off? The little bumps on the slot sides would seem to keep
the film from sliding around.

Thanks.
Mike.

It seems from other posters that an older version of the reel without the
two plastic plates had uneven development problems. So, I wouldn't leave
them out without doing some testing first.

I think you must not be getting them on the correct little plastic nub. Once
I have them inserted, it takes a serious push while pulling up the edge of
the reel for me to get them out. There are three nubs for each plate, the
peak goes over the center nub and the other two are at the edge of the
plate.

If they are falling off they aren't on right. The main thing those plates
do is change the flow of chemicals. You should have these little pins on the
reel. The plates snap in with the pins holding them.

Yes, you do nsee to need them to get even development.

And yes, there is a knack to getting them on - once you have got it, it
seems easy. It's a little hard to describe, and I sold my tank a while ago
now.

I remember fiddling with them for ages one night, then when I got it right
just thinking Doh! so that's how they go...

OK, I have it now. I was just resting the V-shaped notch against the outside
of the center post. Popping it over the post seats the notch opposite, on
the outside, very firmly in place; the v-notch serves only to guide the
plate into place. It seems rather obvious now that I see it assembled.
Thanks for the gentle push.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
