It seems from other posters that an older version of the reel without the
two plastic plates had uneven development problems. So, I wouldn't leave
them out without doing some testing first.
I think you must not be getting them on the correct little plastic nub. Once
I have them inserted, it takes a serious push while pulling up the edge of
the reel for me to get them out. There are three nubs for each plate, the
peak goes over the center nub and the other two are at the edge of the
plate.
