Anybody have any experience with this camera? I bought one a week ago, took
a few pix, and then the camera stopped focusing. I returned it to the store
and they were very nice about it as they replaced the camera, but I'm now a
bit concerned about reliability.

I like the camera. Good 12:1 optical zoom, nifty anti-shake, easy-to-handle
size, etc. But I don't want to be in the middle of nowhere with failed
electronics.

Also makes me glad I bought it from a local store instead of on-line. That's
pretty unusual for me.

Make sure you update the cam's firmware to the latest version..

This takes care of many issues, and many of the cams still on the shelf have
the old firmware.

For EXCELLENT Z3 tips n tricks, check out this forum:

I'm VERY pleased with mine, but have only had it a few weeks now. I did drop
mine about a foot, and it rolled another foot, and there wasn't a scratch,
or problem with it at all.. VERY surprising.

This is my 3rd digicam, and my favorite so far...

I went for the Panasonic FZ20 - it got a slightly better write-up and
keeps the f/2.8 at the long end of the aperture range. Single cell
battery rather than fumble-in-the-field AAs, but I know that people differ
in their preferences! I did have a Minolta A2 but I sent it back because
of image quality and ruggedness concerns.

Can't comment on reliability as yet, though. Come back in six months.

The FZ20's a fine camera - but the z3 just fit my hand a little better. I
also have a Dimage X that's served well as my first digicam, and I guess I'm
just inclined towards Minolta since I owned my first srT-101 almost thirty
years ago.

Firmware is version 1.02, which is the current version. I'll take a look at
the forums, too.
So far, I'm really impressed with the camera. I love my old Minolta srT-101
and its lenses, but this is a superb replacement. Thanks for the info!
