I have a physical disability and as a result have no fine motor
control of my right hand.

Can anyone recommend a good digital camera that can be operated with
ONLY the left hand?

Now that you mention it, I realize that all cameras are made for
right-handed people! How sad is that? I assume that pretty much every
pro-sumer or professional camera is out of the question due to weight
and orientation.

Whenever you do portrait-orientation images, you turn your camera 90
degrees, hence, this would enable you to use any (small) camera on the
market (holding in your left hand and pressing the shutter with your
left pindex or middle finger), but the landscape mode is the problem.
Short of suggesting to take photos upside down and rotating them on
your computer, I don't have much advise.

A quick web search found these sites, though:

<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://andersonlefthandside.com.au/leisure/camera.htm" target="_blank">http://andersonlefthandside.com.au/leisure/camera.htm</a>

Not a whole lot of choices there....

I'm wondering if something like the older Nikon Coolpix cameras would
work for you, their lens portion rotates around and you could possibly
rotate them backwards, handling the shutter portion with your left
hand. This, of course, would require to rotate images appropriately on
your computer, but that's easily done with a program like thumbsPlus
in batch mode.

The Coolpix 4500 does not seem to have any sensor in the portion that
carries the shutter.

Good luck!

Years ago, Nikon planned a left handed F100 (the D1 body). You can see a
prototype on the main page of <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.kenrockwell.com" target="_blank">http://www.kenrockwell.com</a> and some
comment about it, but it never went into production.

Your suggestion are very good, I wish to add that maybe it is possible
to use a common DSLR with a remote shutter release cable, so to hold it
only with the left hand.
