I saw a shipment of used D70's come in from some source in New York to
a Canadian camera store. The bodies were all tossed together in a
box, no wrapping, no protection. They are then dusted off, shoved
into surplus Nikon boxes with the appropriate accessories and sold
"used" for $500/ea. I'm not saying they were junk, they must have
functioned, but does anyone really want to pay $500 for something like
that? >> Stay informed about: Used DSLRs, be WARY of your source |

I friend of mine thought he was purchasing a good quality used D80 body
from one of the two largest and reputable NYC dealers. When he got the
box it was missing the top foam insert and other accessories. The Camera
was DOA.

FWIW, I have never had less than 100% success with B&H, including all of my
purchases, an occasional return, and clear communication. I have not used
Adorama, but some of my colleagues think well of them. And there is a good
local camera chain. Having said that, I've never had a problem buying used
equipment on eBay, but I've only bought from individual photographers,
never from used equipment dealers. I would be wary of buying used
equipment from anybody with less than stellar eBay feedback, and I would be
disinclined to buy from anybody that has sold dozens of used cameras! >> Stay informed about: Used DSLRs, be WARY of your source |

No, the D70 was long-dated when I saw this. >> Stay informed about: Used DSLRs, be WARY of your source |

Cameta, located quite a ways out on Long Island, is also very good. I did
business with Cameta long before he started on eBay and have found him 100%
reliable. His business seems to have grown a lot since he shifted (I think
almost all of it) to eBay.

My point was even the best sometimes fail. Not who you like. I've dealt
with just about every major photo seller in 25 years. Most were good. My
general feeling now is to buy locally when possible because you
typically can preview what is your buying....but thats just me.

I personally have have bought from Adorama, B&H and Lens and Repro
without fault.
I buy locally because I realized awhile back that with my state tax id I
can many times get a better price because I am not paying shipping or
sales tax.
I should also add that I have had good experiences with most of all the
various dealers I have used, I have used quite a few- from around the
country -USA. I also have only had to return one piece of poorly made
equipment in 20+ years.
