Dynamic Range of Point & Shoots... - Is there a between a typical consumer dSLR (400D, D80, A100) and a midrange point & shoot camera? I've tried to find of the dynamic range of these cameras, but haven't been able to find any.
Small Light Camera that shoots RAW - I currently have a Panasonic DMC-FZ7 but I would really like a nice compact camera that shoots RAW Any All price ranges, over cost!

Are you sure the camera doesn't do that? Properly done bracketing and
combining should yield a HDR image.

Actually that the amount of noise in a given pixel of a given image is
random, and thus will tend to decrease when values are averaged. See

Nikon does (spatial) averaging, at least on longer exposures, even
with it's RAW! Astro-guys are regularly bitching and moaning,
as that blurring is of course less than perfect for fainter stars.
Google for Nikon and "Mode 3" ...
And yes, it is averaging.
