Thanks for the helpful answers and references I received. I decided
on the D3, primarily to get the 24x36 mm plate.

Blimey, I wish I had the funds to make a £3500 decision that quickly on
so little information. You might be disappointed when you actually hold
one in your hands to find that it isn't a plate camera.

Can you elaborate? by "plate" I was referring to the 24x36 12 mpix
sensor. What is a "plate camera", and in what sense is the D3 not
one? BTW, the decision was not as speedy as it appears.

I am happy with the answers I have. In part, this is related to the
message filter on the pan newsreader, which allows permanent rejection
of selected authors.
