Post subject: Convert APS film into PictureCD
Archived from groups: rec>photo>film+labs, others (more info?)

Hi, recently I have sent my old APS films to KodakExpress to convert into
PictureCD. But I noticed after the processing, my APS's process indicator
has changed from `Processed' into `Fully Exposed/Unprocessed', may I know is
this normal, but it means that for next time I will have to pay the
processing fee. Next, the resolution for the converted picture file is of
1024x1536, which is rather low. Anyone know do Fujifilm or Konica also
provide this type of service and what is the resolution like, thks !

Regarding the APS process indicator... it's position isn't really important,
and can be altered by anyone with a cheap pen. The white flag is attached to
the spool, which if turned with a pen lid can be put back into the correct
position, if it bothers you that much.
More importantly is the IPI (Irreversible Process Indicator) with is
physically punched out during processing (much like a VHS anti-record
hole)... once this IPI is removed, the roll cannot be accidentally processed
again, so nobody is going to charge you for processing again.

I can't answer your resolution question...<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

1024x1536 is the normal resolution for a Kodak PictureCD.

Kodak PhotoCD's have higher resolution!<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Yes, Kodak uses a low res respectively. I run a Lab that uses Fuji equip
and we have the ability to make the resolution higher. Unfortunately the
resolution is directly correlated with your film type. 35mm will be your
highest possible at apporx 2000x3000, then you have your mounted slide(
mount take a little of picture away) which drops you to Approx 1500x2500 (I
think), then you get to your smallest which is the Aps so your max res I
believe is close to the 2000x2500. I will double check those and make sure
of exact res if you would like.

The Fuji Frontier system can scan much higher.
