Post subject: Canon Digital Rebel flash
Archived from groups: rec>photo>moderated (more info?)

I am a newbie with more camera than I understand (so far). I have a Canon
Digital Rebel, I also have a Quantaray PZ-1 DSZ flash, which, when I bought
it from Camera World stated that it was compatible with all Canon EOS
Camera.
The flash works in "test" mode, it also worked on my cousins old AE-1
camera. I cannot figure out how to make it flash on my Rebel. The manual for
the camera doesn't really say, and the manual for the flash says refer to
the camera manual.
I just want it to flash when I take a picture, as in full auto mode. As I
learn more, I will tweak thing to make shots better. Is this flash
compatible or not? Am I missing something obvious?
When I looked at the pics using Canon Digital Solutions, the info keeps
saying that the flash was "off"
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Randy

Most likely, your flash doesn't support E-TTL. All Canon DSLR's only
support E-TTL, hence the problem.

I think all EOS FILM SLR's can drop back to plain TTL, which allows a
wide variety of 3rd party flashes to work with them. Not so with the
DSLR's.

You are right. In spite of what the Camera Worlds tech told me, I need an
E-TTL flash. I have returned the quantaray to them and exchanged it for a
Canon 420EX. Thanks for the help.

The 420EX is a better flash anyway. Smile
