No, mine only has an optional click, off by choice. I'm not surprised
however, I expect the digital SLRs will soon have cell phones and
garage door openers built in.

In the case of film, like the CSIs, the sounds aren't environmental,
they are added by the Foley Guy in post production. This is what
makes it funny to me. (Jack Foley is probably turning in his grave.)<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Two laughs for the price of one: I laugh each time I hear it, and then
anyone who's watching with me laughs at me for pointing it out...

Okay, bets on what sound they are trying to emulate? As one who used the
motordriven Nikon-F 36 and F250 for years, I can say that's the sound-effect
they target. Funny how the modern cameras don't emulate the virtues of,
say, the whisper-quiet latter models.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Shoot, don't them cameras come with customizable "skins" like, say, MP3
players, cell phones, etc? Hell, you can probably download samples of famous
camera shutter sounds to emulate. Hassy, Bronica, Nikon (several models), etc.

Or you could have the camera emit the sound of a fart each time it's used.

Most excellent! (I mean, that completely repurposes the whole enterprise
paradigm orientation for my team.) I have a friend in the corpo-world who will
get a big kick out of that.

My tiny little digital, which I use as a 'notebook', came with a selection
of sounds, for the 'shutter' and for various other audible signals. One
choice is a quiet 'kerching' for the shutter and various standard beeps and
buzzzes for everything else - but other choices include Japanese music
clips, and a selection of mioawing cat sounds. (I quite like the cat
noises - but my cat doesn't.)
